The city of Wichita has joined the national AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. The designation gives Wichita access to technical assistance to help assess the needs of older adults related to housing, transportation and other services.

The Social Security Administration confirmed to AARP that beginning April 14, they will allow all claim types to be completed over the telephone as they previously had been. This includes Retirement, Survivors, and Auxiliary (Spouse or Child) benefits that SSA previously announced would require in-person identity proofing, in addition to Social Security Disability Insurance, Medicare, and SSI.
AARP is seeking volunteers to advocate at the local, state and national levels on issues important to Kansans 50-plus, to help make communities better places to live for all people.

Kansas Emergency Rental Assistance Program launches
Governor Laura Kelly is encouraging Kansans to apply for funds available through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) to help pay high electricity bills caused by extremely cold temperatures. Due to the severe cold weather the state experienced in February, Kansans may see higher than usual utility costs.
