Promote Change by Advocating at the Kentucky Capitol

Kentucky State Capitol

State lawmakers return to the capitol on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and AARP volunteers will make sure they hear about the needs of Kentucky’s 50-plus residents.

AARP Kentucky is seeking the best policy solutions to lower prescription drug prices at the state level, to bolster financial security in retirement, to support unpaid family caregivers and to promote independent living.

Possible changes to the state tax code will also be an important legislative priority. The state office will call on the General Assembly and the governor to repeal 2018 tax increases on retirement income and restore deductions for medical expenses.

AARP Kentucky’s Lobby Day will bring together dozens of statewide volunteers to attend committee hearings and one-on-one meetings with legislators.

Volunteers will share personal stories and seek to strengthen support for the needs of older Kentuckians. Lobby Day is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2020.
