Middle-school students Madie Alderdice, Kayla Aldridge, Lexie Mathis, Jenna Shupe, and Connor Thomas, otherwise known as the “Golden Girls” from Graves County, KY took home AARP Kentucky’s Age Friendly City Award at the 2017-2018 Future City Competition.

AARP Kentucky announces two winners for the AARP Community Challenge, aiming to create change and improve quality of life at the community-level. The winning projects include the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, Division of Parks and Recreation and the Western Kentucky University Center for Gerontology. Each project was fully funded through the AARP Community Challenge grant and is set to be completed by November 1, 2017.

Lexington AARP volunteers' excitement could be seen on their faces as they greet local members and guests to the historic Lyric Theatre. The film, "Southside with You" was selected as the first in a series of free AARP Movies for Grownups in Lexington.

Several cities in Kentucky are taking steps to make it easier for residents to age comfortably in their own homes. Berea, Bowling Green and Lexington have joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. The network encourages safe streets for pedestrians, better housing and transportation options, and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities.
