Learn About California's New Health Care Marketplace

Health Care

Covered California, created as a result of the Affordable Care Act, is our state's new health insurance marketplace where you can compare health plans and purchase the coverage that you decide is best for you and your family, based on your budget and health care needs. These plans cannot be denied or canceled if you are sick or have pre-existing health conditions. Enrollment begins October 1st, 2013 and coverage begins on January 1st, 2014.

To share more information about how the marketplace will work, Covered California is hosting town halls throughout the state.  Four town halls will take place in September with regional community leaders and key stakeholders. Anyone can attend to participate in discussion with Covered California board members and senior staff, including Executive Director Peter Lee. Attendees will hear an update on Covered California's progress and current plans, including outreach and community education strategies. In addition, audiences will have an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions. Town halls will be held in Long Beach, San Bernardino, the San Fernando Valley, and Salinas.
