Interested in sharing your experience and talents as a volunteer?

You have a lifetime of experience to offer. Why not share your talents right here in Maine? Through outreach, advocacy and service, AARP volunteers and staff work together to enhance the quality of life for Mainers of all ages. Whether it is behind the scenes supporting the daily work of AARP Maine or lending a hand directly to others in Maine communities, we offer a range of opportunities!

Local Advocates

Volunteer advocates engage legislators, deliver testimony, and support important state and federal issues that impact the health and financial security of Mainers over 50. Our advocacy takes many forms: interacting with state legislators at our weekly Tuesdays at the State House (T@SH), contacting AARP members through letter writing or phone calls, virtual small group meetings with local legislators through Kitchen Table Chats, writing letters to the editor, and more! Our Recess Regulars advocate with our Members of Congress during Congressional recesses.

Community Engagement

Fun with purpose is a theme for our community work around Maine. Community engagement volunteers work together with local residents, community leaders, and organizations to host events (such as our free coffee and on-tap social events), support community projects and share information and resources -- a perfect way to make a difference in towns across Maine!

Speakers Bureau

We are always looking for energetic volunteers who can represent us around Maine. We’ll work with you and give you the resources you need to give simple presentations to groups and organizations on a variety of topics including Social Security and Medicare, livable communities, Fraud Watch and more.

Other Opportunities

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax assistance to those who need it most: those who are 60 years of age and older, as well as other members of the community who may have disabilities, and individuals and families who generally earn $60,000 or less. We’re looking for friendly individuals to join us for the upcoming tax season to work as volunteers at designated Tax-Aide sites in communities across Maine. You’ll receive training and support, learn new skills and feel great while helping others.

AARP Smart Driver is the nation’s first refresher course specifically designed for drivers aged 50 and older. Several volunteer Opportunities await you! Maine has a growing network of Age-Friendly, Lifelong Communities dedicated to making the cities and towns where we live, work, and play better for longer, healthier, and more equitable lives. In communities large and small, lifelong community volunteers work with their municipality, local groups, and organizations to change the landscape for aging.
