Winter is almost here which brings good news and bad news. Bad news: higher heating and electricity bills.
Good news: more funding is now available for those in need through Maine’s Low Income Assistance Program (LIAP)!
Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), recently mailed letters to all income-eligible Mainers with simple instructions on how to get quick access to help with your bill. If you or someone you know is one of the 67,000 recipients of these letters, don’t throw it out! Follow the easy steps below to make sure you get the help you need this winter!
Details: On November 21, 2023, DHHS mailed 67,000 letters to qualifying households to notify them about their eligibility for LIAP benefits. Below you will find a short explanation of what customers should do with the letter in order to receive the LIAP benefit. If you have questions, you can call the PUC at their Consumer Assistance Hotline at 1 (800) 452-4699 or call your utility company directly. A third option is to contact your local Maine Community Action Partnership organization.

The postal or email address for their utility is on the back of the letter.
If customers who receive this letter would like help filling out the form or sending it to their utility, they can:
