Social Security Anniversary Proclamation - Celebrating 90 Years

Since August 14, 1935, Social Security has helped older Americans live and retire with dignity, supported people with disabilities, and provided vital income to families after the loss of a loved one.

Today, more than 67 million Americans receive Social Security, including almost 370,000 in Maine. For many, it’s the bedrock of their retirement, but the program is also critical for younger families, those living with disabilities, and 20,000 Maine children.

On August 22nd we will celebrate the milestone 90th anniversary of Social Security at the Maine State House with the signing of a Social Security Proclamation by Governor Mills. As we celebrate this anniversary, one thing is clear: we must continue to protect and strengthen Social Security.

Please join us at the Hall of Flags in the Maine State House on Friday August 22 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM. Governor Mills will join us to sign the Proclamation to signify the importance of 90 years of Social Security.

Breakfast refreshments will be available from 9:30AM to 10:30AM.
