Thanks to AARP Livable Communities initiatives, Grand Rapids gets walking trails, and a project in East Lansing connects older adults with students to combat isolation.
The $16,055 grant will be used to pay for installation of five ADA-approved benches to be placed along a business corridor, accommodating residents with limited mobility, and increasing access to a city pathway.
AARP Age-friendly program to be integrated into Michigan Aging & Adult Service Agency's three-year state plan. Community conversations in 16 communities will attempt to identify the highest needs of, and greatest opportunities for, older adults.
The governor made her announcement at the day-long AARP Michigan Age-Friendly State and Communities Conference in Lansing. The event also included expert panels and speakers, including mayors and lawmakers.
