AARP released a report that shows an estimated 19,221 of Mississippians on Medicare prescription drug plans will see savings thanks to a new out-of-pocket cap that starts January 1, 2025. The savings are made possible by a provision in the 2022 prescription drug law that AARP championed which caps out-of-pocket prescription drug costs every year, beginning at $2,000 next year, for America’s 56 million Medicare drug plan enrollees.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, AARP sent the following letter in support of the newly proposed Preventing and Reducing Improper Medicare Expenditures (PRIME) Act (H.R. 2305/S. 1123), legislation that seeks to curb fraud, waste and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
AARP Mississippi will conduct a free HomeFit Workshop at 10 a.m. at the Bancorp South Conference Center on Saturday, June 8 in Tupelo. The workshop will explain techniques to design and update your home to support your needs and lifestyle at any age.
There’s still time to nominate an outstanding volunteer for the 2013 Mississippi Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors age 50+ Mississippians who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members. “AARP Mississippi is excited to shine a light on 50+ Mississippians who are using what they’ve learned in life to make a difference in the lives around them,” said AARP Mississippi State President Bruce W. Brice, Sr.

AARP Mississippi is teaming up with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to host encore entrepreneur events at two locations. The first event is April 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Mound Bayou Community Facility Building at 301 East Martin Luther King Drive in Mound Bayou. The second event is April 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the West Side Community Center at 4006 8th Street in Gulfport. To register, call 1-877-926-8300.
Mississippi leaders only have a few days left in the 2013 legislative session, and they have yet to expand Medicaid for hard-working Mississippians. Access to health care is on the line, especially for more than 39,000 50- to 64-year-old Mississippians who cannot afford health insurance. If you think Medicaid should be expanded in Mississippi, call Governor Bryant and Speaker Gunn at 1-888-333-5757 and tell them.
