AARP Mississippi is proud to present the Scholar Athlete of the Week program this fall. Mississippi is home to outstanding Scholar Athletes who go over and beyond in sports and academics. This fall, we will recognize these high school students weekly beginning in October. The students will receive a certificate and monetary award.
AARP Mississippi is inviting all Veterans in the area to attend the AARP Veterans Town Hall on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The free event will be held at the Brown Mississippi Baptist Church, 980 Stateline Road East in Southaven. Veterans may bring one guest. Lunch will be served.

(Ridgeland, MS) – AARP Mississippi is observing Operation Stop Scams with a series of events throughout the state from April 16 – May 21. A shred event will be held from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Metro Center Mall, located at 3645 U.S. 80 in Jackson. A fraud prevention workshop will start at 11 a.m. that day at Metro Center Mall. Another shred event will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on May 19, 2018 in the parking lot of Brown Missionary Baptist Church Family Enrichment Center, located at 980 Stateline Road East in Southaven. Fraud prevention workshops will be presented throughout the state.

AARP is now accepting applications for the 2018 Community Challenge grant program to fund “quick-action” projects that spark change in local communities. The grant program, which is now in its second year, is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which aims to make communities great places to live for everyone.

Gwendolyn Spencer Prater, Ph.D. of Madison has been appointed as the new State President of AARP Mississippi. State President is AARP’s highest volunteer position in Mississippi, representing 285,000 AARP members in the state. In partnership with the State Director, volunteers and staff, the State President helps the organization achieve its vision, mission and strategic priorities.
