AARP Mississippi is happy to announce our Scholar Athletes of the Week every Friday this fall. We partnered with Super Talk Mississippi to seek nominations for outstanding students who excel in sports and academics. The response was overwhelming! That's why we're bringing you two exceptional Scholar Athletes every week.

Black History Month is an annual celebration commemorating African Americans who contributed to the monumental movement of equal rights for men and women in our society. The month of February allows individuals to pay homage by reflecting on the past, while focusing on the future. In commemoration of Black History Month, AARP is offering a free admission day to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018. The first 300 people will enter free of charge.

Joyce Nelson of Moss Point has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2016 AARP Mississippi Andrus Award for Community Service -- the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.
(Jackson, MS) - AARP is now accepting nominations for its 2016 Mississippi Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors 50+ Mississippians who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.
AARP Mississippi thanks the Mississippi House of Representatives for passing HB 1178 today. The bill now goes to the Senate. HB 1178 would help expand access to healthcare through telemedicine. It has the potential to improve the lives of patients, as well as their caregivers, across Mississippi.
