AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking to expand its team of volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Approaching its 50 th year, Tax-Aide offers free tax filing help to anyone, especially those 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service. Tax-Aide volunteers make a difference in their communities by assisting many older, lower-income taxpayers who might otherwise miss out on the credits and deductions they are due.
Kathy Gaines of Omaha has been selected to receive AARP Nebraska’s highest volunteer award. She is the 16th volunteer to be honored with the annual AARP Nebraska Andrus Award for Community Service since 2002.
Nebraskans who want to know how proposed changes in health care coverage could affect them are invited to a community conversation hosted by AARP in Omaha. The event will be Monday, Oct. 23, 6-8 p.m., at the Millard Branch Library, 13214 Westwood Lane.

Each project was partially or fully funded through the AARP Community Challenge grant and is set to be completed by November 1, 2017.
