AARP Eye Center
Did you know that 89% of people 50 and older have told AARP that they want to remain in their homes for as long as possible?
Did you also know that most homes do not “FIT” the changing needs of people as they age? Join us for HomeFit, a program that provides you with the knowledge to assess your current home and identify what may need to be changed in order remain there safely and stay independent.
The AARP HomeFit program was developed to educate older adults on how to navigate all types of living spaces independently to allow them to remain in their own homes as they age. Participants receive information on how to easily evaluate their own home for “livability” should they themselves or one of their family members become unable to use stairs, or must rely on assistive devices. It is designed to help individuals plan for independence, choice and dignity as they age.
At this session:
- A HomeFit facilitator will lead participants through the process of thinking about each area of their current home in terms of whether it will meet their needs as they age.
- A variety of potential adaptations and modifications are given showing that the solution can range in price from inexpensive to expensive depending on the individuals needs and desires.
- Examples of strategies to make the home more accessible, products available to make these changes and professionals available for consultation are given.
