AARP NJ Responds To Release of New Jersey Task Force on Long-Term Care Quality and Safety Report

Calls for the legislature and Governor to move quickly on the report’s findings and recommendations, which include prioritizing home and community-based care

TRENTON, N.J. (May 10, 2024) - AARP New Jersey has released the following statement from State Director Chris Widelo in response to the release of the New Jersey Task Force on Long-Term Care Quality and Safety Report:

I find comfort in being with you

Ensuring the safety and highest quality of care for New Jersey’s nursing home residents must be a top priority for state leaders. Tragically, thousands of residents and staff lost their lives as a result of COVID wreaking havoc on our nursing home system.

“We applaud the New Jersey Task Force on Long-Term Care Quality and Safety for providing a clear framework for transforming our long-term care system. This report prioritizes home and community-based care so more New Jerseyans can age in place and avoid nursing homes, and ensures that we will not see a tragedy of this scale in the event of another public health emergency.

“There is no time to waste. We urge the legislature and the Governor to act swiftly to implement the report’s recommendations, and protect New Jersey’s 39,000 nursing home residents.”
