A new property tax relief program for older New Jerseyans, called StayNJ and passed in 2023, is expected to reduce property taxes for most residents 65-plus by 50 percent—up to $6,500 per year.
While StayNJ doesn’t take effect until 2026, there are existing programs that older New Jerseyans can take advantage of.
Those programs include: Senior Freeze, an income-based property tax increase reimbursement program for those 65 and older or with disabilities; and the Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters program, which is also income-based and offers annual rebates for eligible homeowners and renters.
