Local Grants Make Big Impact in Ohio

Six Ohio organizations and municipalities received 2022 AARP Community Challenge grants for local projects to benefit residents of all ages.

The projects are in the following areas.

  • Cleveland: free home repairs for older adults in the Union-Miles neighborhood
  • Columbus: a new outdoor space for refugee families to get together
  • Delaware: upgraded fitness equipment, benches, lighting and landscaping in the city’s Unity Park
  • Franklin County: educational sessions on how to access libraries, parks and public transit for Bhutanese women refugees
  • Toledo: a new bench and shelter for a bus stop near a community clinic in Toledo, as well as bike racks at the clinic and an improved ride-hailing program
  • Youngstown: a vacant space converted to a small park with benches, porch-type swings, a flagpole and tables.
