Oklahoma has enacted the Elder Exploitation and Abuse Act, a groundbreaking law aimed at protecting vulnerable adults from financial, physical, and emotional abuse. Effective November 1, 2025, this legislation empowers victims and their legal representatives to pursue civil claims against abusers, including caretakers. The law allows for the recovery of punitive damages, attorney fees, and court-ordered access to records.

Across a spectrum of political views, 87 percent of likely Oklahoma voters support services that can help people live in their own homes as they age, according to a recent nonpartisan SoonerPoll. Most respondents support home- and community-based services such as hospice care, home health care, visiting nurses, transportation, home-delivered meals, senior centers, help with housekeeping, respite care and a central place for caregiving information.
AARP Oklahoma is hosting a teletown hall on Thursday, September 29 at 10am to discuss the upcoming Corporation Commission ruling on the PSO electric rate increase request. PSO has asked for, at last count, $137 million dollars from their customers. This could mean increases in monthly bills by as much as 14%! The teletown hall will be hosted by AARP Oklahoma State Director, Sean Voskuhl with Deborah Thompson, who represents AARP at the Commission in utility matters.
