Gathering Place and AARP Oklahoma announced today the launch of the official Park app. The app, sponsored by AARP Oklahoma, is now available for free download on iPhone and Android. The app will enhance the guest experience using beacon technology to provide additional information about the Park including announcements, way finding technology and more. It also includes a comprehensive calendar with Park events, concerts and festivals.

AARP Oklahoma livability surveys for the communities of Tulsa, Norman, Shawnee and Vinita have been extended to be open until February 28. The surveys will gather community feedback to determine attitudes and opinions on a variety of topics, such as housing, outdoor spaces, transportation and streets, health and wellness, social participation, educational opportunities, volunteering and civic engagement and job opportunities.

An online survey designed to provide information to improve the quality of life for older citizens kicks off in four Oklahoma communities this week. AARP will gather opinions from residents in Tulsa, Norman, Shawnee and Vinita to determine attitudes and opinions on a variety of topics, such as housing, outdoor spaces, transportation and streets, health and wellness, social participation, educational opportunities, volunteering and civic engagement, and job opportunities.

Downtown Vinita, a rural community of 5,700, has become more hospitable to pedestrians, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the AARP Community Challenge program.

AARP Oklahoma presented a $3,000 honorary grant check today to Oklahoma State University’s Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service to support OSU’s rural broadband outreach program.

Vinita, Okla., August 21, 2018 -- Downtown Vinita will soon be more pedestrian-friendly, thanks to a $25,000 grant from AARP and its 2018 Community Challenge grant program.

Today, AARP announced the awardees for its 2018 AARP Community Challenge grant program, including a recipient right here in Oklahoma. The City of Vinita has been awarded $25,000 to fund an innovative downtown-area revitalization project, which greatly improves the safety and walkability of their historic Route 66 Main Street area.

AARP Oklahoma is recognizing some of the Oklahoma FFA’s best and brightest chapters and students with a video, which launched on AARP social media on April 20. The video features 10 Oklahoma FFA chapters that have achieved Model of Excellence recognition by the FFA. Model of Excellence chapters recognized include Burns Flat-Dill City, Colcord, Elgin, Fairview, Howe, Oologah, Owasso, Perkins-Tryon, Stillwater, and Tulsa-Webster.

AARP Oklahoma announces The City of Shawnee winner of the AARP Community Challenge, aiming to create positive local change and improve quality of life at the community-level. With AARP funds of $9936.00, The City of Shawnee will install a traffic circle located at the intersection of West Burns Street and North Chapman Avenue to create traffic calming measures and improve safety for pedestrians, bikers, and vehicular traffic alike.

The doors officially opened for the new Community Market of Pottawatomie County (CMoPC) food resource center on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. The CMoPC provides food and resources to local residents struggling with hunger, and as the motto reads, the center is committed to "Fighting Hunger... Feeding Hope". In addition to access to nutritious food in an empowering shopping environment, the CMoPC also offers services and resources such as resume and career assistance, nutrition classes and driver safety.
