AARP Oregon is committed to helping provide the accurate and unbiased information you need when making voting decisions. Americans 50+ are our nation's most powerful voters - and they will be the deciders in the 2024 elections. Age is a key ingredient of diversity, and Portland was the first in the country to be designated an age-friendly community. Your voice is critical to ensuring that it continues to be a place where people of all ages and abilities can thrive.
What you need to know for the 2024 election in Portland
· Ranked-Choice Voting
In the Nov. 5 election, Portlanders will elect a mayor, auditor, and three councilors to represent their district using ranked-choice voting.
What is ranked-choice voting? In a ranked choice voting system, voters have the option to rank candidates in order of preference instead of selecting only one candidate. Learn more in this video from Multnomah County Elections and also on the City of Portland website.
· What’s Your District?
Learn more about the City of Portland's geographic voting districts.
Currently, all of Portland’s City Commissioners are elected at-large; Portlanders vote and elect all candidates from anywhere in the city. However, starting in the November 2024 election, the City of Portland is moving to district-based elections. Portland voters will use these districts to elect three city councilors to represent them. You can look up your district with this handy tool.
