Students in video call partecipating to online class

 By Sarah Bader

“That is the challenge, to live up to our better selves, to believe well of our fellow men and women, and perhaps by doing so to help create the good we believe in, to experiment, to explore, to change, and to grow.”
Ethel Percy Andrus

AARP volunteers, working in partnership with paid staff and community colleagues, are a necessary and vital force in enhancing the lives of people 50+ and their families. AARP Oregon programs have shifted to a virtual (online) environment during the pandemic, and volunteers are a vital part of virtual events.

You don’t have to be a whiz at technology to make a meaningful contribution as a virtual volunteer. Even if you need to use special technology or apps, they’re common tools you may already use, or can easily learn. Take a look at some of the opportunities available and click on the links to fill out an application.

Virtual Volunteer

Virtual Event Team members work with staff and other volunteers to produce meaningful, engaging, and effective events our members and the public enjoy. Volunteers are needed to help with zoom presentations or other platforms. Duties include managing the zoom, chat or other function. Volunteers work in teams, and it’s a lot of fun. Volunteers are critical to this effort and training is provided. https://bit.ly/VirtualOregon

Legislative Advocacy Volunteers

The Oregon state office is growing our team of volunteer legislative activists.  If you are interested in engaging your state legislators in support of AARP’s social impact agenda, considering becoming an AARP volunteer and apply here to become a member of the Legislative Advocacy Volunteer team. Advocacy training begins in the fall for those who want to help advance AARP’s agenda on behalf of people 50-plus and their families.

Oregon Speaker Bureau

Oregon volunteers present on a wide range of topics from Fraud to Brain Health using virtual ready handouts and materials. We are always looking for presenters, facilitators, and trainers to add to our team. If you enjoy working with a robust group of volunteers to deliver valuable information to the public, apply for the Oregon Speaker Bureau Team and we will contact you with next steps.

Interested in hearing from volunteers how they are making an impact? Check out our Meet and Greet calendar and attend an upcoming session. Please consider joining the AARP Oregon Team!

Sarah Bader is a Program Specialist at AARP Oregon and manages many of the volunteer programs.
