Kim and her husband Aaron Knight on vacation at the Pittock Mansion in Portland
By Kim Adler, AARP West Region Vice President
Happy New Year! I’m delighted to launch 2016 as the new Regional Vice President for AARP’s West Region. In addition to the great state of Oregon, our region includes nine other states that stretch from Montana to Hawaii and from New Mexico to Alaska, with many exciting locations in between. I was reminded by one of AARP’s state directors that “west” rhymes with “best” and that seems so appropriate for our region.
I’m especially pleased that Oregon is one of the states in the region. It holds a special significance for me, since much of my husband’s family lives in Tualatin just outside of Portland. I’ve enjoyed many visits to Mount Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, the beautiful beaches of the coast, Willamette Valley wineries, Multnomah Falls, and more than a few McMenamins – my brother-in-law’s favorite. I look forward to exploring more of the state in my new role and most importantly meeting our members.
I’m honored to be working with the strong staff and volunteers that lead our efforts to deliver impact for Oregonians. As we serve as your partner in creating a healthier and more financially secure future I will ensure that our state team has what they need to be successful in delivering value to you, our members. One AARP member in particular, my mother-in-law Dana, will continue to keep my support focused on Oregon, and I will celebrate every victory and accomplishment as a benefit to my family.
I will serve as a leader, advocate, and champion as the ten state offices in our West Region support caregivers, increase retirement savings, improve communities, and engage our members to offer education and fun. West is best!…but don’t tell any of the other states in the region that I said that Oregon is one of the best IN the West.
