Scammers Increasingly Using Cryptocurrency ATMs in South Carolina

As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older Georgians—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.
During the pandemic, AARP South Carolina has adapted its outreach to its 180,000 older vets with drive-through Stand Downs and the Virtual Veterans Brigade. The program shares information and free AARP resources to support veterans in the areas of caregiving, avoiding fraud, transitioning to jobs, and connecting vets and military families to benefits.

Last Tuesday, the SC DHEC’s board voted to distribute the COVID vaccine by population numbers only. The alternative voted down was to provide earlier distribution of vaccines to areas with higher numbers of seniors and other vulnerable populations.
In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, AARP South Carolina sponsored free coffee drinks for all patrons at the Roastery, a ministry of Oliver Gospel, on Monday, January 18.
