Congratulations to AARP Utah's Community Outreach Director Jill Duke, who was honored April 17 as the Utah Food Bank's Board Member of the Year. The remarks by Board Chair Scott Jensen honoring her for this award follow below:
Jill Duke started as a Programs Committee Member with Utah Food Bank, and joined as a Board Member a year ago, currently serving as Board Committee Chair.
Her service to Utah Food Bank has included delivering senior food boxes for several years, and has been instrumental in our Kids Cafe location inspection processes. During the holidays, she also helps at our East Donation dock, and has been instrumental in building the relationship between AARP and Utah Food Bank. AARP has been a key supporter of Utah Food Bank through their incredible volunteer efforts, hosting an annual food drive at Rocky Mountain Raceways, and financial support.
Jill has worked at AARP Utah for 22 years and currently is their Community Outreach Director and manages the volunteer program at AARP.
Since 2009, AARP has had 302 Volunteer Visits, which accounts to 889 volunteer hours, including delivering hundreds and hundreds of food boxes to seniors facing hunger.
Her commitment to giving back goes beyond Utah Food Bank - Jill also serves on the Utah Coalition for Caregivers Support and on the Salt Lake Community College Encore Institute Committee. She is truly deserving of this award, and I am proud to present it to her.
Founded in 1904, the Utah Food Bank provides food to a statewide network of 134 emergency food pantries and agencies. Last fiscal year, Utah Food Bank distributed 37.5 million pounds of food and goods, the equivalent of approximately 31.3 million meals, to families and individuals in need. Utah Food Bank also served close to 245,000 Kids Cafe meals, delivered almost 41,000 food boxes and filled more than 60,000 kids’ backpacks to ensure hunger-free weekends.
