AARP Utah is a proud sponsor of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and the first walk is coming up soon!  The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.  The Alzheimer’s Association’s vision is a world without Alzheimer’s, and these walks to raise funds will make a big difference toward reaching that goal.

AARP Utah supports these walks as a tremendous way to raise funds and awareness about this disease.  The statistics on Alzheimer's are sobering.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association:

  • 5 million Americans have the disease, including 29,000 in Utah
  • Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the country
  • Every 67 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s disease
  • In 2014, Americans paid $241 billion for Alzheimer’s disease care, $150 billion of which was from Medicare and Medicaid;
  • One in six women over 65 develop Alzheimer’s disease
  • Currently, Alzheimer’s disease cannot be prevented, cured, or slowed

This year’s walks are in Logan, Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo, and St. George.  All walks have registration at 9:00 am, an opening ceremony at 10:00 am, and the walk at 10:30 am.  The route course for each is two miles long.  These walks will occur rain or shine!  Here are details about upcoming walks in your area:
