AARP Eye Center
Many people start the new year off with New Year's resolutions. But if you're anything like me, you break them, early and often.
The same can be said for Martha Autrey-Collins, an AARP volunteer. She says instead of a New Year's resolution, she tries to make small lifestyle changes, and stick with them in the new year.
So what is top of mind this year? For Martha, it's getting more steps in. Martha already keeps pretty busy with volunteering and a part-time job, but she says her goal is to be more "intentional" about getting her steps in. She plans to buy a Fitbit to track her steps and start small with daily walks to get the mail, or around her neighborhood.
Other small ways to keep moving, join a gym, plan a neighborhood walking group to help hold you accountable, or learn how to play the increasingly popular game of pickleball. There are also many free or inexpensive exercise classes at your local senior center. For example, Salt Lake County Aging and Adult services offers a variety of fitness classes, both in-person and online.
Recently, Martha sat down with KSL's Tamara Vaifanua to chat about her movement goal in 2025. To watch the full story on KSL's website, click HERE.
