On November 25, 2025, Acting Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq., signed the unanimously approved Caregiver Leave Act (Bill 36-0086) into law. This legislation represents a significant advancement, ensuring that all full-time employees of the Government of the Virgin Islands, including those working with independent boards, commissions, and agencies, receive four hours of administrative leave each month. This leave is intended to help them manage essential caregiving responsibilities for a seriously ill spouse, child, parent, or any legal dependent.

However, for many, the holidays also bring added stress. Caregivers are already busy, and the demands of the holiday season increase that workload. Something has to give! It’s perfectly okay to give yourself a break this year. Here are some tips to help you navigate the holiday season with more joy and less stress.

On November 10, 2025, Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. signed Act 9051, which amends title 34 of the Virgin Islands Code, chapter 15, expanding the Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Protection Act. Act 9051 was approved by the Virgin Islands Legislature on October 30, 2025. AARP Virgin Islands State Director Troy de Chabert-Schuster testified before the 36th Virgin Islands Legislature in support of amendments to the territory’s Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Prevention Act (Bill 36-0099).

The song titled “AARP Makes Me Happy” is an infusion of locally recognized voices such as Eldrige “Edgy” Christian, Nikki Brooks, and Delyno Brown aka Pressure Busspipe, the sounds of the renowned Flautist and VI Music Ambassador Stanley A. Jacobs, Ph.D. of the Ten Sleepless Knights, and backup vocals by Aquila Jackson. The song was written and composed by Luis Ible, Jr. and produced by Malvern Gumbs. The lyrics describe the work of AARP in communities across the nation blending the rhythms and sounds of Quelbe and Soca music.

Virgin Islands is bringing together older adults, caregivers and others for a workshop on ways to detect and prevent elder abuse.
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. in February signed a bill to help boost the U.S. Virgin Islands’ agricultural sector — a measure supported by AARP. The bill devotes $2.2 million for the adoption of various portions of the Virgin Islands Agricultural Plan, which was unveiled in 2022 and is aimed at strengthening sustainable, community-based local food and farming businesses.
In the early 1900s, the Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, now called "Black Wall Street," was a vibrant and prosperous community. Despite the challenges and racial injustices they faced, residents of this community built a thriving neighborhood filled with successful Black-owned businesses, attorneys, doctors, and real estate agents. Their achievements were nothing short of remarkable and served as a beacon of hope for Black Americans nationwide.
Women's History Month is underway, and we're excited to celebrate the ground-breaking contributions of amazing women to communities nationwide. Originating as Women's History Week in 1981, March was officially dedicated to honoring women's achievements in 1987. And AARP joins in the nation in celebrating women for their leadership, mentoring, and dedication to their communities in ways that have changed the course of history.
