Virginia voters statewide will hear candidates’ positions on issues important to their families
RICHMOND _ AARP Virginia is pleased to announce that Senator Tim Kaine and Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chair Corey Stewart have accepted invitations participate at The People’s Debate on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
“It’s important that voters get to hear directly from the candidates to make the best informed decisions on issues that are important to their families,” said Jim Dau, AARP Virginia State Director. “We are honored to be able to give Virginia voters the chance to hear directly from the candidates in this statewide forum.”
The People’s Debate is Virginia’s oldest and most widely broadcast statewide, televised debate. The 2018 event will take place at 7 p.m. on October 2 in the studio of WCVE-TV (Virginia Public Television), in collaboration with media partner WTVR-CBS6. The media partners will distribute the debate to broadcasters statewide in order to make the forum available to voters across Virginia.
Other candidates who, within 45 days of the event, meet eligibility criteria including a minimum of 15 percent voter support in at least one statistically valid poll conducted by news media or another independent organization (free of ties to a political party or candidate), will also be invited to participate.
AARP Virginia, with more than one million members in Virginia, has traditionally sponsored The People’s Debate for gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races for more than a decade. AARP does not endorse or contribute money to candidates, political parties, or campaigns.
