24th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet

The Roanoke Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) will host their 24th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Banquet on Friday, January 18th, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn (Roanoke), located at 3315 Ordway Drive, N.W. 24017.

The banquet speaker will be Ramona Leigh Taylor Esq. the 1985 – 1991 Richmond Chapter SCLC Secretary, a graduate of Duke University and the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law. Attorney Taylor is an accomplished researcher, published writer, award-winning screenwriter, producer, filmmaker, and Attorney. She is the founder of Caring Field Films and a principal and co-founder of Shockoe Productions. Ms. Taylor Esq. is an Assistant Attorney General in Richmond V.A., Legal Counsel for Virginia State University, the historically black land-grant institution near Petersburg, V.A., and serves as the Board President of the Oliver White Hill Foundation, that supports the next generation of social justice pioneers and engineers.

As Assistant Attorney General in Richmond V.A., and Legal Counsel for Virginia State University Attorney Taylor deals with a wide range of questions that she must research, analyze, and decide how to proceed such as employment issues, real estate issues, grants, and contracts worth millions of dollars. All this while maintaining the legacy of Oliver White Hill, Sr. Esq. holding the office of Board President of the Oliver White Hill Foundation that exists to make a difference in the lives of citizens, young and old, who believe in the causes of justice, fairness, and opportunity.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award honorees are: Dr. Nancy H. Agee, Clinton Barlow, Gwen Basham, Cynthia Brown, Victor Caldwell Esq., Ruth Claytor, Larry LeGrande, Dr. David Points, Lorena Wilson, and Brian Wishneff.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award honorees are: Local Office on Aging (LOA), Patricia L. Hancock, Vijeh Hardy, Megan Mizak, and Cheryl Twine.

The Dr. Perneller Chubb-Wilson Justice Award honoree is: To be announced at a later date.

As the Roanoke Chapter continues the vision of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., please join them for this year’s celebration. Tickets are available for $50.00 per person.
