AARP Virginia volunteer advocates will urge lawmakers to act on the organization’s legislative agenda when the General Assembly convenes Jan. 14, including three priority issues: creating a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, establishing paid family leave and protecting consumers from cryptocurrency kiosk fraud.
Virginia lawmakers will consider paid leave for the state’s family caregivers and tighter rules for cryptocurrency ATMs during the 2026 legislative session. Along with establishing a prescription drug affordability board, paid leave and crypto fraud measures are AARP Virginia’s top priorities this year.
In honor of National Family Caregivers Month in November, AARP Virginia is working to help nearly 1 million family caregivers in the state, who in 2021 provided $14.3 billion in unpaid care for loved ones. Go to events.aarp.org/VACare.
Virginians Also Prioritize Paid Leave and Medicaid-Funded Home Care
AARP Virginia has canceled the 97th District candidate forum that was set to take place between Delegate Michael Feggans and former delegate Tim Anderson on Tuesday, September 23, at the Kempsville Area Library in Virginia Beach.
As the nation marked the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act, signed into law on Aug. 14, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, AARP Virginia hosted a community event to celebrate the milestone and gather public sentiment on the program’s legacy.
Republican nominee Winsome Earle-Sears, the current Lieutenant Governor, declined the invitation due to a scheduling conflict. Former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s campaign accepted the debate invitation on behalf of the Democratic nominee in July.
