Russia’s War on Ukraine in Historical Perspective:
A George Mason University Online Speaker Series and OLLI Mason Companion Course

In celebration of George Mason University’s 50th anniversary, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University (OLLI Mason) is pleased to collaborate with George Mason University’s Program in Russian and Eurasian Studies to provide the interactive course Russia’s War on Ukraine in Historical Perspective.

AARP members and friends are invited to participate in 12 complimentary classes and join a special live discussion offered three times throughout the series. The discussions will offer an enhanced experience for OLLI and AARP members. In the first session, the director of George Mason University’s Program in Russian and Eurasian Studies, Steven Barnes, will provide important historical background on Ukraine and Russia that will allow attendees to get the most out of attending the speaker series. In subsequent sessions, Professor Barnes will debrief, facilitate discussion, and answer questions that emerge from the speaker series.

As a companion to the public speaker series Russia’s War on Ukraine in Historical Perspective, this three-session course will offer an enhanced experience for OLLI and AARP members. In this speaker series, a dozen professional historians will present the results of their career-long research, and explicitly address the question of how they use their knowledge of history to make sense of the war.
