Smartphones have become a ubiquitous and seemingly irreplaceable part of our lives, including for the vast majority of Americans over 50. According to the Pew Research Center, 91% of Americans age 50-plus now own smartphones, and knowing how to take advantage of the devices’ available functions is where AARP comes in.
AARP Virginia is conducting three online workshops this month to help participants make better use of their smartphone’s many photography and photo editing features along with other device uses you may not be aware of.
If you sign up before Jan. 23, you still have the opportunity to participate in the next two. Register here.
“AARP Virginia recognizes that our members are technology-savvy and wish to grow in their understanding of devices which help them connect, engage and capture memories along the way”, said Associate State Director Brian Jacks. “Photography can be a meaningful way to engage socially and recall life’s highlights.” These workshops, he added, help build confidence in using smartphone cameras by presenting functions or settings which may be unfamiliar to some.
In the first webinar this month, AARP Senior Planet Trainer Betty Carnevale Guerrero presented a wide array of tips and suggestions for improving smartphone photography skills. Her next session Jan. 23 will focus on photo editing tools, and the series concludes Jan. 30 with smartphone uses beyond photography. The sessions give those participating the chance to ask questions and practice using features while learning in a hands-on manner.
These online presentations are just part of AARP Virginia’s series of Lifelong Learning classes. See the full current schedule here.
