'Movies for Grownups' in Roanoke draws large audiences for October screenings

October was a very busy month for AARP Roanoke, which was filled with a variety of fun filled social and educational events in the Roanoke Valley. The Valley was privileged to have not one but two AARP Movies For Grownups at the historic Grandin Theater.

With $5 snack packs, attendees poured in the theater to see Downton Abbey on October 1^st. Many of the volunteers gave up their seats to accommodate attendees. The theater was filled to capacity and many had to be turned away. Many of the movie goers were fans of the series and came out to support AARP, and to enjoy a FREE movie with friends and relatives. With all three hundred and fourteen (314) seats filled, AARP Movies For Grownups set a new record. According to Russell Schiavone, “It’s great to see so many people out socializing and enjoying recently released movie.”

On October 23, 2019, the community came out to support the movie “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” The movie, based on the best-selling novel by Garth Stein, is a heartfelt tale narrated by a witty and philosophical dog name Enzo. Attendees indicated it was a moving and inspiring story which they fully enjoyed.
