SW Chap 1
Roanoke Chapters Remain Involved

Roanoke's Southwest AARP Chapter #4652 has set as a goal for 2018-19, to grow its membership.  In order to attract new members and encourage former members to rejoin it is focusing on presenting informative and engaging programs.  In September, its program was presented by Ruth Anne Parsons, Administrator of the Adult Care Center of the Roanoke Valley, a day care center that offers care to physical, medical and mental dimensions of care while providing family support and an alternative to long term care.

Samantha Poe

In October, the program was presented by Samantha Poe, pharmacist at Friendship Health and Living Community.  Ms. Poe reviewed services provided by the facility for not only those who are serviced by the health care venue but to the general public as well.  She shared information and samples of pill packaging, called Dispill Multi-dose Packaging, and prescriptions with enlarged print for those with low vision and "talking" prescriptions, known as Script Talk, for those who may be unable to see at all.   Information about joining the SW Roanoke Chapter that typically meets at the Roanoker Restaurant at 9 A.M. on the second Wednesdays of the month, can be obtained from its president, Priscilla Casey, at  pacejt01@hotmail.com.

The Roanoke Eureka Chapter #0514 has been concentrating at its recent meetings on the planning and implementation of its 50th Anniversary Celebration.  The event is scheduled to be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 beginning at 5 P.M. at the Holiday Inn located at 3315 Ordway Drive, Roanoke.  To be honored at this event will be Mrs. Eva Dudley, Mr. Jesse Powell and Mrs. Jacqueline (Jackie) Robinson.  Information about the Anniversary celebration or chapter meetings that typically are held at the Melrose branch of the Roanoke City Library at 1 P.M. on the second Tuesdays of the month, can be obtained from its president, Mary Terry, at  rtmter@cox.net.
