The Roanoke Community Ambassador Leadership Team met on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Local Office on Aging. The group shared personal experiences such as a planned mission trip, recent certification in Career Facilitation, experiences volunteering in helping with SOL school testing supervision, as well as facilitating and participating in a 6 weeks Chronic Disease Self-management Workshop.
Members of the group also reported recent successes that included the Movies for Grownups Series, the Walking Group, the Salem Senior Fun and Health Day, the Vinton Senior Services Expo, attending and presenting in the recent Virginia Retired Teachers Conference, advocacy efforts in the nation's capitol and the legislative successes in the Virginia General Assembly.
Upcoming events discussed included Juneteenth, scheduled for Saturday, June 9, 2018 in Washington Park from noon to 6 P.M. In cooperation with the United Way's Day of Service, team members are planning to participate in Roanoke City's "Read and Feed" Summer Program on June 21, 2018. Other upcoming events include Grandparents' Day at the Virginia Museum of Transportation, the Henry Street Festival, the Feed the Hungry food drive in September and the Latino Festival in the fall.
