Time to Submit Nominations for the Annual AARP Andrus Award for Community Service

AARP’s commitment to volunteer service began with our founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus. AARP continues to honor her legacy with the AARP Virginia Andrus Award for Community Service. This prestigious volunteer award recognizes individuals who are sharing their experience, talents, and skills to enrich their communities in ways that reflect AARP’s mission, vision, and commitment to volunteer service.

Criteria for the award are:

• Nominee must be 50 years old or older.
• Accomplishments, achievements, or service which the nomination is based must have been performed on a volunteer basis, without pay.
• Accomplishments, achievements, or service which the nomination is based must reflect AARP’s vision and mission.
• Couples or partners who perform service together are eligible; however, teams are not.
• Nominees must live in Virginia.
• This is not a posthumous award.

Nominations can be submitted by AARP members, volunteers, chapter or retired teacher unit members, community partners, and members of the public at large.

The winner will be selected by the AARP Virginia Selection Committee. The AARP national office provides guidance for the Andrus Award for Community Service but the selection of the recipient is at the sole discretion of AARP Virginia.
