Join AARP DC in congratulating Johnny Garcia, South Regional Advisor for Community, States and National Affairs, on being honored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with the 2016 Metro DC’s Finest Award. Each year, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation honors the city's most accomplished men and women who show exemplary leadership, are active in their community, and excel in their profession or business. This year Johnny was one of only sixteen honorees named from across the Greater Metro Area. The award ceremony took place on October 5th at the law offices of K &L Gates, LLP.

On Sunday, September 11th and Monday, September 12th, AARP DC volunteers and staff participated in the AARP Foundation's Celebration of Service Meal Pack Challenge. This year's Celebration of Service event paid tribute to all the veterans and retired first responders who have given so much of their lives in service to others. It also lifted senior poverty out of the shadows and shined a spotlight on the needs of older adults who are struggling to secure the essentials. With the help of over 3,000 volunteers, we packed 1.5 million meals for our region's struggling seniors!

The 16th annual Library of Congress National Book Festival will be held at the D.C. Convention Center on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. More than 100 authors, illustrators and poets will discuss their work, sign books and interact with readers of all ages.
