Janet Lam-Rogers of Seattle believes in keeping busy. As a volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Northwest Harvest food bank, a house-builder for Habitat for Humanity and a tax preparer for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, the 60 year old spends most of her week helping others.
The Washington State legislature recently passed a Senate Bill 5186 that increased the qualifying income from $35,000 annual gross income to $40,000 for the senior/disability property tax exemption starting in October, 2015. The income change is not retroactive, and will be applied to the 2016 property taxes and subsequent years.

The White House Conference on Aging is holding the third of five regional events on April 2 on the shores of Elliot Bay at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center.
