AARP Wyoming invites music enthusiasts to embark on a fascinating journey through the worlds of Mozart, Gershwin, and the history of jazz with Barry’s Musical Musings. This engaging three-part series, featuring internationally recognized and award-winning musician and educator Barry Wiesenfeld, begins on Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 6-7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Barry Wiesenfeld, celebrated for his deep musical expertise and engaging storytelling, will guide participants through the lives and works of Mozart and Gershwin, as well as the rich history and evolution of jazz. With his ability to blend historical insights with lively discussions, this series promises an unforgettable experience for music enthusiasts of all ages.

About the Event: Each week of the series will explore a different theme:

  • Week One: Mozart - Jan. 14
Mozart’s music is renowned for its unparalleled beauty and emotional depth. But what is the story behind this genius? What inspired the mountain of masterpieces he left behind, and which compositions have stood the test of time? In this session, Barry Wiesenfeld will discuss Mozart’s life, his inspirations, and the enduring legacy of his exquisite works.
  • Week Two: Gershwin - Jan. 21
Some say George Gershwin brought jazz into the concert hall, but what does that mean? Wiesenfeld will dive into Gershwin’s ability to merge musical worlds and create a distinctively American sound. Participants will explore his eclectic history, the milestones of his all-too-short life, and hear some of his works with Gershwin himself at the piano.
  • Week Three: Jazz - Jan. 28
Jazz—a genre born in the U.S. and shared globally. This session will uncover the origins, evolution, and defining characteristics of jazz. Participants will learn about its structure, the key artists who shaped it, and the fascinating parallels between jazz and other musical genres. Of course, the session will include listening to some of jazz’s most iconic works.
