AARP Wyoming’s Care for Caregivers is back in Cheyenne with free workshops starting Oct. 6 and running each Monday through Nov. 10.
The events are hosted at the Laramie County Library’s Cottonwood Room in Cheyenne. Registration for the events can be done by clicking here and AARP membership is not required to take part. Each session starts with a complimentary dinner and time to connect with fellow caregivers from 5:30-6:15, followed by a presentation provided by local specialists on the evening's topic from 6:15-7:30.
The topic schedule for the workshops includes:
Oct 6: AI for Caregivers - Discover how artificial intelligence can support your daily caregiving tasks and help safeguard you and your loved ones from fraud.
Oct 20: End of Life Decisions - Learn what to expect during end-of-life stages and how to prepare emotionally and practically
Oct 27: Caregiver and Care Recipient Safety - Explore essential first aid basics and practical home modifications to enhance safety and functionality.
Nov 3: Cognitive Changes/Suicide Prevention - Recognize early signs of cognitive decline and emotional distress—and learn where to turn for support and resources.
Nov 10: Caregiver Stress Relief with Laughter - Learn how to use humor and laughter as powerful tools for well-being and stress reduction.
The series was developed in collaboration with Holy Name Catholic Church and AARP’s Sheridan Community Action Team three years ago and has grown to welcome in between 30 and 50 participants each week. The events were so successful, AARP Wyoming used the model to expand the series to Cheyenne, Casper, and Newcastle. In 2024, AARP’s national office requested the Sheridan Community Action Team develop a kit to allow other communities around the country to hold their own Care for Caregivers events.
