Care for Caregivers Series is Back in Sheridan

Sheridan Caregiver Training 2
AARP's Sheridan Community Action Team

The popular Care for Caregivers Workshops are returning in 2025, starting Sept. 8 at Holy Name Catholic Church’s Parish Hall in Sheridan.

The Care for Caregivers series offers five weeks of workshops on different subjects important to those acting as caregivers to a loved one. The events always start with a congregate dinner at 5:30 p.m. with the workshop kicking off at 6:30 p.m. On-site activities and respite care is available for loved ones. The events are free, you do not need to be an AARP member, over age 50 to attend. You may attend as many or as few workshops as caregivers feel are relevant to their needs. The series includes:

  • Sept. 8 - The Realities of Caregiving:  Being Prepared for What May Happen
  • Sept. 15 - Brain Health:  Taking Care of Ourselves
  • Sept. 22 - Managing Medications:  Why It Is Important To Get It Right
  • Sept. 29 - Home Healthcare and Home Care:  What they Are and How They Are Different
  • Oct. 6 - Respite Care:  Arranging for the Caregiver To Have a Break.

“I hope we are able to find that person that has come to the realization that they can’t continue to be caregivers without support and resources. That is what we are here to offer,” said co-organizer of the first Care for Caregiver Series in Sheridan, Stella Montano.

The series was developed in collaboration with Holy Name Catholic Church and AARP’s Sheridan Community Action Team three years ago and has grown to welcome in between 30 and 50 participants each week. The events were so successful, AARP Wyoming used the model to expand the series to Cheyenne, Casper, and Newcastle. In 2024, AARP’s national office requested AARP Wyoming and Holy Name Catholic Church develop a kit to allow other communities around the country to hold their own Care for Caregivers events.
