Pat Sherwood of Glenrock was honored last Tuesday in Casper for her work with AARP’s Smart Driver Course, during the organization’s Volunteer Recognition Dinner.
The AARP Smart Driver course, offered by AARP Driver Safety, is the nation’s first and largest refresher course designed specifically for drivers age 50 and older. For more than 35 years, the course has taught over 16 million drivers proven safety strategies so they can continue driving safely for as long as possible. The program is run by volunteers, such as Sherwood.
Sherwood has been an instructor with the Wyoming AARP Driver Safety program since 2006. When the district coordinator retired in 2014 she willingly stepped up and took over that duty. In addition to teaching driver safety courses, Pat is kept busy with a family produce business and care giving for neighbors.
State Coordinator Jackie Martin says: "Pat has always been a very conscientious district coordinator making sure that every course location has as many classes as the community desires.”
