AARP Wyoming has named Shirlee Jacobsen as its Community Partner for 2024. Jacobsen will be presented with her award at the AARP Walking Club this October.

“I was pleasantly surprised to hear I was the Community Partner award winner,” Jacobsen said. “It is an honor to be chosen and I am thrilled to be considered, much less chosen.”

Jacobsen is the General Manager at Frontier Mall and Frontier Square in Cheyenne. Last year AARP Wyoming started an early morning walking group that meets at Frontier Mall each week. This allows for exercise for members on days when the weather is either too hot, too cold, or too windy. Once a month the group meets for a presentation on something health-related before going for the walk. Walkers have the option of scanning a code on their phone to track their laps and distance walked.

“We have a pretty strong mall walking community here, so this was a natural fit for AARP to join forces with us and put together something that is more official,” Jacobsen said. “Now there is something where people can track their stats, their health markers and we love to support the AARP. I’ve been a member for eight years now. It’s something I thought was a very good partnership for us and the mall.”

For the past four years Jacobsen, a Laramie native, has been the general manager of Frontier Mall. Before that, she spent four years as the general manager of JCPenny inside Frontier Mall, having spent 25 years at five different stores and the corporate offices for JCPenny.
