AARP Hearing Center

The state’s Low Income Energy Assistant Program, known as LIEAP, is seeing a higher than normal number of applications. The good news for AARP members is until Oct. 1, LIEAP is prioritizing a few specific populations, including adults aged 60 and over. Other eligible Wyoming households may apply for LIEAP from Oct. 1 - April 30.
To apply, go to lieapwyo.org or call 1-800-246-4221. If you do not get through right away, please leave a callback number. The LIEAP phone system will hold your place in line and call you back when the next program specialist is available.
Households must meet LIEAP income requirements, with a limit of up to 60% of the state's median income. For instance, a four-person household must have an annual income of $68,902 or less. For a household of two people, the median income is just over $46,000. The program helps both homeowners and renters, including those in permanently parked RVs.
Payments will start Oct. 1 for those who are in crisis of disconnections, or have empty or near empty fuel tanks. Payment for unregulated propane, pellets, wood, heating oil and coal bills will go out after Oct. 1.
Last season, LIEAP distributed $6.1 million to help 8,236 Wyoming households stay warm. The program receives federal funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is administered by the Wyoming Department of Family Services.
