Seniors Fires and Falls Takes on Casper, Saturday

A group of goodniks will change light bulbs, smoke detectors, smoke detector batteries, and carbon monoxide sensors for Natrona County seniors, November 4 in Casper. The Natrona Fall and Fire Prevention Coalition has been doing this work since 2014 and since that time has replaced smoke alarms in 143 homes around Natrona County.

This weekend volunteers from around the community, as well as the Natrona County Fire Prevention Coalition will meet at the Casper Senior Center at 8 a.m. on Saturday to receive an overview on what they are being asked to do, as well as receive training on things to consider while entering someone’s home.

The Fall and Fire Prevention Coalition is funded by a group including the Blue Envelope Fund, Wyoming AARP, The Reveille Rotary of Casper and others with volunteers from the Casper Fire-EMS, the Casper College Fire Science Program and the Reveille Rotary offering the boots on the ground. In 2015 donations from Rotary, AARP, and Blue Envelope resulted in 700 smoke alarms, 280 night lights, and 900 light bulbs.

Smith asks that those who have cordless screwdrivers to bring them, as well as stools, and other hand tools. In addition to replacing smoke alarms and batteries in the smoke alarms, volunteers will also seek out falling hazards and offer night lights, which have becoming increasingly popular among seniors, trying to avoid falls.
