Sheridan Area To Host Veterans Golf Tournament

Five organizations known for helping this nation’s military veterans have come together to sponsor a Veterans Golf Tournament at Kendrick Golf Course in Sheridan, June 15. Registration for the event ends June 7.

AARP Wyoming’s Sheridan Community Action Team (CAT), Disabled Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Sheridan VA Health Care System, and Volunteers of America have joined forces to sponsor and administer the event.

“This is a golf tournament for veterans, by veterans,” says Sheridan CAT member Clarence Montano, who himself served in the US Army from 1972-75.

The tournament is open to all veterans. The tournament has an entry fee of $60, which gets participants 18 holes of golf, a light lunch, and use of a golf cart. The driving range will also be available at no cost to tournament participants. The tournament itself will be a scramble with a modified blind draw for teams.

The tournament will kick off Saturday morning with a color guard presentation, an invocation by the chaplain, and a salute to military members by the local Chamber of Commerce. Among those playing will be a number of hospitalized veterans from the Sheridan VA, as well as selected military members and their families who will be deployed this summer. T he golf tournament will be one of a few different events for veterans the weekend of June 15. On June 14, the Sheridan VFW will offer a barbecue starting at 6 p.m. After the tournament on Saturday, the American Legion will host a dance for veterans and the public.

To register, applicants are encouraged to send their name, phone number, and address, to Clarence Montano at 1614 North Heights Avenue, Sheridan, WY, 82801.
