Join AARP in Supporting Measure M on Election Day.
Hepp, Joy M

Los Angeles residents spend an average of 81 hours per year stuck in traffic, waiting for buses and trains, and navigating streets that are unfriendly for bikes and pedestrians. These are hours that could instead be filled with quality time with our families, kids, grandparents, and friends.

At AARP, we believe our neighborhoods and communities should be livable and age-friendly for all. That's why we invite you today to join AARP in supporting "The Los Angeles County Traffic Improvement Plan", or Measure M for short. Through a half-cent sales increase, and an extension of the current half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2008, Measure M would generate an estimated $860 million per year for projects that would:
• Ease freeway and local traffic congestion
• Expand, accelerate, and maintain the county’s public transit system rail and bus lines
• Keep senior, disabled, and student fares low
• Provide local-level funding for each of the county’s 88 cities for their own road improvement projects, from street repaving to sidewalk repairs
• Create over 465,000 new jobs, and be monitored by an independent oversight board

In surveys of AARP's nearly 38 million members nationwide, over 87% of respondents tell us consistently they want to remain in their homes and communities as they age. Measure M means Real Possibilities for people of all ages to be better connected to their family, friends, social activities, and health and wellness services in Los Angeles County.

That's why AARP is launching the "Age-Friendly Pledge for Measure M" - add your name here!

Recently, AARP State Director Nancy McPherson joined Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti in a press conference with supporters and AARP members across the county, including elected officials and business, labor, and community groups to launch the "Yes on M" campaign.

With the election drawing nearer each day, we want to spread the word to all of our members that we support Measure M. Join our team of AARP Volunteers for Measure M! And to learn more about Measure M, visit www.voteyesonm.org and theplan.metro.net. Thanks for all you do for the AARP California community.
