2015 Healing Race Weekend Set to Spotlight Caregiving

HRW

The Healing Race Foundation is committed to spreading awareness about preventative health care services and motivating those affected by chronic disease to sustain healthier lifestyle behaviors. The foundation will be hosting the 1 st Annual Healing Race Weekend August 28 and 29 where you can learn more about caring for others and caring for yourself.

The theme of the 2015 Weekend is “Caregiving. Caring for Others. Caring for Yourself.” AARP Virginia will be offering two workshops at the expo including:

Prepare to Care: Caring for a loved one can be a rewarding experience, but it can also be challenging. No one is ever completely prepared for the job, especially since caregiving is often a long-term responsibility that may become more difficult over time.

The HomeFit Workshop: In an AARP survey, eight out of 10 people age 45 and older say they want to remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible. The AARP HomeFit Workshop provides information to participants on how to decide what type of home modifications are needed to stay in their home as they age.

The 2015 Healing Race Weekend will begin at 8:00 a.m. Friday August 28 and 9:00 a.m. Saturday August 29 at the Beacon Ridge Retreat Center, 1148 Union Hall School Rd., Chatham, VA 24531.

The 2015 Weekend will offer great information and events including a caregivers’ awards breakfast and a concert under the stars featuring singer, Barbara Weathers (formerly of Atlantic Starr).
