AARP Eye Center

The 9/11 National Day of Service is just one coordinated opportunity to give back to you community. Many of you perform incredible service all year round - on behalf of AARP, other organizations, and all on your own! Thanks to each and every one of you for the good that you do. If you're looking for new ideas, are just a few great service examples from recent state-based Day of Service efforts:
- Team AARP Arizona did their Day of Service with “Horses Help,” which has been helping participants for 36 years. They serve an array of people including children and adults with physical, cognitive and behavioral challenges including the at-risk and military. “Horses Help” offers a lot of different programs including Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy and Therapy with Equine Movement to name a few.
- AARP Rhode Island staff celebrated their Day of Service by conducting a walk audit of the Valley Falls area of Cumberland, Rhode Island. An old mill village, Valley Falls has multiple housing projects underway along the same section of Broad Street. In preparation for this influx in residents, the town of Cumberland talked to AARP RI about this community being completely livable and walkable. In response, the AARP Rhode Island staff volunteered to conduct a mile-long walk audit of Broad Street and will present the town with a report in the near future.
- AARP Utah staff delivered food boxes and other essentials to homebound people and seniors living in poverty for the Utah Food Bank.
- The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion came together to make no-sew blankets for the Humane Rescue Alliance in DC, as part of the Comfort for Critters organization. Comfort for Critters is an organization we identified through AARP’s Create the Good. It was a great experience volunteering as a team and learning from one another. We made a total of 20 blankets for the rescue animals to use in their crates and take with them to their forever homes.
