AARP Chapter Advisory Team

Chapter Advisory Team members needed! OVE is recruiting volunteers to serve on the Chapter Advisory Team (CAT).  Through this group, OVE will increase awareness of and responses to the opportunities, promising practices and challenges experienced by AARP Chapters.

Team members:

  • Serve as a liaison between the Chapters in their designated region and AARP’s Office of Volunteer Engagement
  • Create awareness of AARP’s support for, and resources available to Chapters
  • Serve as a sounding board and resource to the Office of Volunteer Engagement
  • Advise the Office of Volunteer Engagement on potential areas of Chapter support including Chapter training, recognition and promotion

General Composition           

The CAT is comprised of two Chapter representatives from across each of AARP’s regions. Each member serves a two-year appointment as a Chapter Advisory Team Regional Liaison and must be an active member of an AARP Chapter.

Volunteer Position: Chapter Advisory Team Regional Liaison

Under the supervision of the Office of Volunteer Engagement (OVE), the Chapter Advisory Team Regional Liaison serves as an advisor to the OVE, works to create solutions to Chapter related concerns and serves as liaison for a designated region. The Chapter Advisory Team Regional Liaison will host monthly calls with Chapter leaders.

Qualified Candidates will have:

  • Demonstrated experience as an advocate for Chapter development
  • The ability to serve as the OVE Chapter Advisory Team Regional Liaison
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to stay on message about AARP’s work and priorities
  • The ability to work with diverse populations
  • The ability to communicate using email and an active email account
  • Current member of an AARP Chapter in good standing

Selection Process

  • For the Fall 2017 recruitment effort, one Regional Chapter Liaison will be selected to join the current liaison in each region.
  • States are invited to nominate qualified candidates by the October 13 deadline
  • For each nominee, please email Sharon Stewart (sbinns@aarp.org) the following information:
    • Name and contact information (phone and email)
    • Brief description of why you nominated him or her
    • Brief description of the person’s tenure with AARP and demonstrated Chapter background
  • OVE will review submissions and send applications to qualified candidates.
  • Interviews will be conducted with finalists.
