AARP is encouraging Oklahomans to participate in Senior Day at the Capitol on Monday, March 30, for a chance to meet in person with their lawmakers and discuss issues important to older adults.

Gayle Brown Olson, a volunteer at the nonprofit Bri's Lodge in Waite Park, helps comfort people dealing with the death of loved ones. The 74-year-old draws on the memories of her own experience after her husband and stepson died in a hunting accident in 1996. Olson received AARP's 2025 Andrus Award for Community Service.

Jan Wilberg worked for decades in social service agencies and as a nonprofit consultant before retiring in 2018 to spend more time as a volunteer with various Milwaukee organizations. She received the 2024 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service, the state’s top volunteer honor.

Communities in South Dakota, Wyoming and Oklahoma are making improvements — including an outdoor classroom, new technology for veterans and home modifications for Native American elders — thanks to 2025 AARP Community Challenge grants.
